This was one of the things I really liked about the Lazarus Long character in Heinlein’s novels. He would often curse automobiles as inferior to horses since you could get drunk on a horse and it would take you home, but the automobile would not.

As I understand it, yes. You can get the equivalent of a DUI riding a horse or a bicycle. Or other things. Now, I am not sure how this works if you’re not on a public road...
